Monitoring Input¶

Monitoring lets you hear your instrument through Sampling Assistant so you can check levels and tone before you commit to a full sampling run.

Monitor Input¶

Tick Monitor Input in the parameters panel to pass your audio input straight through to your output:

"Pass audio input through to output for monitoring before recording"

Use it to play a few notes by hand, confirm the signal is arriving on the right channel, set a healthy level (loud but not clipping), and make sure the sound is what you want to capture.

Set levels before a run

Aim for a strong signal with headroom — peaks comfortably below clipping. Recordings are captured cleanly without auto-gain, so what you monitor is what you get.

Monitoring during a run: "Mute output while sampling"¶

While a sampling run is in progress, what you hear is controlled by a separate setting in Settings → General → Audio Output:

Mute output while sampling — "When enabled, output is muted during sampling (silent). When disabled, you hear the input audio while sampling (default)."

Disabled (default) — you hear the instrument as each note is recorded.
Enabled — the run is silent.

Muting doesn't affect the recording

Mute output while sampling only silences what comes out of your speakers — it never changes what's recorded. The captured samples are identical either way. Enable it if a long run would otherwise be tiring or disruptive to listen to.
