No audio is being recorded / wrong input

Open Settings → Audio and check the Input device and its active input channels. The Input: label in the parameters panel should read Mono or Stereo — if it says Not configured or No device, no input is selected. Turn on Monitor Input to hear the signal live and confirm it's reaching the app before you sample. Full walkthrough: Audio & MIDI Setup and Monitoring Input.

ASIO doesn't appear in the device list

ASIO only shows up if an ASIO driver is installed for your interface. Install your manufacturer's driver (or a generic ASIO driver), then reopen Settings → Audio. ASIO is the recommended driver type on Windows for low latency. See Audio & MIDI Setup.

MIDI isn't reaching my instrument

Check the MIDI Channel dropdown matches the channel your instrument listens on (default 1). Use a Listen button next to the note dropdowns to fire a single note and confirm the instrument responds. If nothing plays, verify the MIDI routing/cabling between your computer and the gear.

Samples are silent, clipped, or the wrong length

  • Silent — check input levels with Monitor Input on; confirm the right input channel is active in Settings → Audio.
  • Clipped — lower the level at your interface or instrument before sampling.
  • Cut off or too long — adjust Sustain Time (how long the note is held) and the Duration / Sample Time mode. In Auto mode, run Detect so the app measures the tail. See Sample Duration & Sustain. To tidy an individual take, trim or reverse it in Editing Samples.

Export fails or warns about disk space

Before copying, Sampling Assistant checks there's room for the samples on the destination drive and warns you if not. Free up space or choose another drive, then export again. Remember each export copies every sample into a Samples/ folder. See Exporting Your Instrument.

My Kontakt instrument can't find its samples

Kontakt (KSP) exports use absolute sample paths, so moving the exported folder breaks the links. Re-export to the final location, or keep the folder where it was exported. SFZ and Decent Sampler use relative paths and can be moved freely with their Samples/ folder. See Export Formats.

Note names look one or two octaves off vs. my DAW

That's expected. Sampling Assistant numbers octaves so MIDI 60 = C5 (the octave is MIDI note ÷ 12). Many DAWs label MIDI 60 as C3 or C4. The pitch is identical — only the octave number in the label differs. See Note Range & Note Names.

Where are my recordings saved?

Each instrument records into a folder named after it, with samples as 24-bit .wav files. See File & Session Formats for the naming pattern and folder layout.

What's the difference between a session and an export?

A session is your re-editable working file — reopen it to change settings or re-trim samples. An export is the finished, sampler-ready instrument (SFZ, Kontakt, or Decent Sampler). Keep the session if you might revisit the instrument; share the export with your sampler. See Saving & Loading Instruments.

Updates and crash reporting — what's collected?

Under Settings → General:

  • Automatically check for updates on startup (on by default) shows a banner when a newer version is available.
  • Send crash reports and analytics sends anonymous crash reports and usage statistics only. No personal information or audio data is collected. It's optional — turn it off any time.
